'Museum & Draw' in London, 21st February
As I promised in my previous journal entry, I will announce one day every month where I will invite to a public sketching day. Because these things are far more fun with others, I invite you to meet up with me, for a casual meet & draw in the Wallace Collection in London on Sunday, the 21st of February! Everyone who is interested can join in, participate and sketch any of the exhibits, or ask me questions, perhaps just socialise, and so on...
We had a lovely time last month in the British Museum, although it was rather cold in the museum: the temperature had suddenly dropped and the museum couldn't heat up this large place quick enough. Sketching all day in a large hall with a cold marble stone floors didn't help...by the end of the session I was absolutely frozen! So be warned, it might get a bit cold after a while, especially while sitting still in a museum. I don't want any of you catching a cold.
'Museum & Draw' will take place at the Wallace Collection on Sunday, 21th February 2016 and encourages participants to spend 10 to 30 minutes (or more) really looking at objects through drawing them. This is our second 'Museum & Draw' of the year. I will be there from around 11:30. The museum is free of charge, but a little donation to the museum would be appreciated, even if only a few coins. The Wallace Collection is in the middle of London, just a few blocks from Oxford street. If you need directions, please get in touch or visit the museum's website: www.wallacecollection.org/visi…
We are booked in, just asked for 'Claudia's Art group' or roam the museum until you find us. The museum is even kind enough to provide us with folding chairs, which can be borrowed from the cloakroom. There is a café/restaurant in the former court yard, which has now a glass roof, so we can have a rest there.
The Wallace collection is a huge, former private collection of medieval arms & armour sets from all over the world, swords, shields, maces, bows, guns and everything else knights used to carry. It is apparently Europe's biggest collection of armour and weaponry. But not only this, the displays show a diverse variety of objects from old, illuminated book pages, miniature and large master paintings, ornate French furniture, bronze sculptures, and so much more... There is a lot to see and choose from!
Hope to see some of you there!!
I will be there from about 11:30 to 17:00, just pop by if you like to join in.
As I said before, I will make this a regular thing, aiming for once a month, place and times will vary. So, let's meet up and socialise. It will always be completely free - I will pick museums or parks which don't charge entry fees. It will be informal, no matter your skills, just bring your sketchbooks, your favourite pencils or pens, maybe a cushion to sit on, and you are sorted! Please no wet paints, we would not be allowed those in the museum.
