My first serious attempt with oil paints. I still have to get used to paint with them, it's so different to acrylic because it stays wet for so long - I finished it 2 weeks ago and the paint is still not dry!
The original oil painting is for sale here: [link]
Although the barn owl is one of the most widespread birds, their numbers itself decline rapidly and in most European countries and seven American States they are already on the "red list" of endangered species. In the United Kingdom for example, the numbers of barn owls have declined to 3,000 breeding pairs, down from 150,000 during the last 20 years due to chemicals and poisons used in farming, and the destruction of their habitat. The canary barn owl, a subspecies of the common barn owl which inhabits the Canary Islands and Spain, counts less than 200 birds still in the wild. Even worse off is he ashy faced barn owl: there are only 11 breeding pairs counted left in the wild.
Thank you very much! Oh, I can't remember how long it exactly took, I think I had the unfinished painting sitting around for over a year! It doesn't help that oil paint takes months to dry properly.
