Pygmy snake by Heliocyan Pygmy snake by Heliocyan
'Thamnophis gracile' (South American pygmy snake), for a field guide. Painting the iridescent scales was quite a challenge. I'm not quite sure if I like it yet, if time allows I might work a bit more on the reflections. Rarely have I cursed a work so much. (I don't curse very often. Honest.)

I will get back to other animals, once I have this book finished... I promise! I just don't have the time for *anything* else right now.

My first impression of this drawing was "what a nice effect with the reflections!" so I think it works ;)
Very inspiring to me, too, because I like to draw snakes in the next time, but have no idea how to do the scales and pattern...

That's beautiful! The colours re just gorgos  I can only imagine how hard it was to get all of that detail, but it's spot on :)

It's gorgeous, Claudia. And, the reflections are my favorite part!! The purple compliments it perfectly.
